In soccer, a "derby" (pronounced "DAR-bee") is a match between two teams from the same city or region. These games are special because of the intense local rivalry, shared history, and community pride at stake.
The term comes from England, where some of the world's most famous derbies take place — like the North London Derby (Arsenal vs. Tottenham) or the Manchester Derby (Manchester United vs. Manchester City). These matches carry extra significance because neighbors, classmates, and families are often divided in their loyalties.
The Latin Derby fits perfectly into this tradition. Boston Latin School and Boston Latin Academy share a common legacy as part of the Boston Latin family, educating students from across the city. When our teams meet on the field, it's more than just a game — it's a celebration of our schools, our communities, and the friendly rivalry that makes Boston high school soccer special.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Latin Derby! Share your photos and memories from this special event and help us celebrate this new Boston tradition.
